You do not have to worry when you go shopping for your backpack to carry all your stuffs when you are on the road. In fact, there are a few things you need to take into consideration so that it will be safe and convenient for you when you travel.
1. Luggage Size
There is no ideal way of setting the size of an item of luggage in inches, as every item will be unique and different from others. However, for most people, 30-40 liters is a good starting point. If you’re an over-packer, then you may need to consider a larger bag. If you’re the opposite, you can opt for the 10 liter bag.
2. One or two shoulder straps?
Many backpacks now come with two shoulder straps and two handles for lifting the pack. This is great for those who want to carry their backpack as a duffel bag rather than on their back. Note: If your backpack comes with these options, it should come in specific sizes!
3. Quality fabric and strong zippers
Quality fabrics are not only more comfortable to touch but also harder wearing and more durable than lesser quality ones. Choose a fabric that is waterproof, as this will increase its durability and versatility. It is advisable to choose a bag with strong zippers (such as the YKK), as these are more durable than lesser quality zippers.
4. Fit for purpose
Plan ahead about where you need your backpack to go; what you need to carry with you and how much room there will be in the back of your car. If you want to carry it on flights, remember that it must fit under the seat in front of you, so don’t pack too much! You can also consider taking this measurement into consideration when selecting a carry-on or a duffel bag.
5. What is your lifestyle?
If you want to be able to travel light and take all your things, then a backpack may not be the best option for you, as it will be too bulky, heavy and cumbersome. In order to make your travels more comfortable, you may want to consider a shoulder bag or a duffel bag for travel.
When travelling with other people who may have different needs, it is better if everybody gets the same type of bag. If you plan on travelling alone or if one of you likes to carry only a few belongings and the other wants to take more stuffs, this might cause tension in group travel and disagreements. If you have more than one suitcase, it is wise to make it a point to show your friends and family what you are packing while they are packing.
